For optimal turf health in Minnesota, a strict weekly schedule is required. During the peak spring growing season, aggressive growth demands consistent cutting to adhere to the agronomic "One-Third Rule." By never removing more than 33% of the leaf tissue at once, we prevent biological stress and encourage dense, lateral root expansion.

In the heavy clay soils of the Twin Cities West Metro, early fall is the premier time for deep-core aeration. This mechanically shatters soil compaction, allowing roots to breathe and absorb critical macronutrients before winter dormancy. Spring aeration is also highly effective if your soil suffered severe hydrostatic compaction from heavy winter snow loads.

Not necessarily. While core aeration is highly recommended annually, aggressive dethatching (power raking) is usually only required every 2 to 3 years. We only perform this service when the thatch layer (dead organic matter) exceeds half an inch, at which point it begins suffocating the root zone and preventing irrigation from penetrating the soil.

For our EPA-certified liquid weed control treatments, we require the lawn to remain free of foot traffic until the application is completely dry to the touch (typically 2 to 4 hours). For slow-release granular fertilizer applications, it is completely safe to walk on immediately, though we recommend waiting until after the first watering cycle fully dissolves the nutrients into the soil.

Deep, infrequent irrigation is scientifically superior to light daily sprinkling. We recommend targeting 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week. Crucially, watering must occur in the early morning (4:00 AM – 8:00 AM). Evening watering traps moisture on the turf canopy overnight, which aggressively breeds destructive fungal pathogens like Brown Patch and Dollar Spot.
