Engineered Site Stabilization
In Minnesota, a retaining wall is often the difference between a swampy, eroding hillside and a usable backyard retreat. FreshWater Landscaping specializes in the design and installation of structural block retaining walls. From small garden borders to massive engineered tiers, we build walls that manage soil pressure, redirect water, and enhance the architectural appeal of your property.

Modern segmental retaining walls (SRW) offer a clean, organized look that complements contemporary home designs. Unlike old timber walls, these concrete systems will never rot or attract pests.
Most retaining wall failures happen because of poor drainage or a weak base. We follow strict engineering standards to ensure your wall stands tall against Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles.

We can build walls of almost any height. However, in most Minnesota cities, walls exceeding 4 feet in height (from the bottom of the base block to the top) require a building permit and a structural engineer's stamp. We can handle this entire process for you.
Absolutely. Water is the #1 enemy of a retaining wall. Without a perforated drain tile (French drain) and gravel backfill, water builds up behind the wall, freezes, and pushes the blocks out of alignment. Every wall we build includes a drainage system.
For longevity and strength, concrete segmental blocks (like Versa-Lok) are the best. They don't rot like wood and are more structurally predictable than natural stone for tall, vertical applications.
Pricing varies based on the block type, the height of the wall, and the soil conditions. Structural walls require significantly more excavation and base material than decorative garden walls. We provide detailed, itemized quotes for every project.
Yes. Integrating staircases into a retaining wall is a great way to improve the flow of your landscape. We use matching block materials or natural stone treads to create a seamless transition between levels.
